Tuachin
The Tuatschin (stress on the final syllable) describes the Rhaeto-Romanic dialect within the Sursylvanian idiom, which is spoken in the upper Cadi in the canton of Graubünden in the area around the village of Tujetsch and in Val Medel .
particularities
The Tuachin has retained some of the peculiarities of the old Sursilvan before this idiom developed further in the early modern period and also separated it from the idioms of the Central League , the Sutsilvan , the Surmiran and the Bargunegner . This led to the fact that the Tuatschin, although geographically the most remote, has a more direct connection to the other Rhaeto-Romanic idioms than the Sursilvan.
Diphthongization
The Tuatschin even connects the particularly distinctive emphasis on the diphthongs with the Engadine Romance idioms Vallader and Jauer (while the Puter has a similar diphthong hardening or monophthongization as the Sursilvan).
Others
Another differentiation to the Sursilvan is the continuous pull of the Tuatschin towards palatalization .
Written language
The Tuatschin is colloquial and everyday language. The written language on its territory, however, is (high) Sursilvan.
