Tucupita is the capital of the Delta Amacuro state in eastern Venezuela .
The city was founded in 1848. At the October 30, 2011 census, it had a population of 86,487, or 84 percent of the population of the district of the same name (102,877). It is located on the eastern bank of the Caño Manamo , an estuary in the Orinoco Delta , about 110 kilometers from the coast.
