The Tuiparas parakeet ( Brotogeris sanctithomae ) is a species of the New World parrots. The species occurs exclusively in South America.

Appearance

The Tuiparas Parakeet reaches a body length of 18 centimeters and is therefore as big as the Knotty Parakeet and slightly larger than the Golden-winged Parakeet , which is the smallest species of the small- billed parakeet .

The Tuiparas parakeet is very similar to the golden-winged parakeet. Overall, however, its plumage is a little more yellow than that of this species. In addition to the small orange-colored chin patch, the Tuiparas parakeet also has a narrow orange-colored headband.

Spread and behavior

The Tuiparas Parakeet occurs in northern Brazil south of the mouth of the Amazon. The birds live mainly in flocks. Their diet consists of fruits, berries, seeds, flowers and nectar. Little is known about the breeding habits of the Tuiparas Parakeet.
