The water lily tulip ( Tulipa kaufmanniana ) is a species of tulip ( Tulipa ) in the lily family (Liliaceae).
features
The water lily tulip is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 45 centimeters. The anthers are twisted together, colored yellow, and gradually open from top to bottom. There are 1 (to 5) flowers. The bracts measure 2.5 to 11 × 1 to 5.5 centimeters, the outer ones are bent back and blunt, the inner ones rounded. The inside of the bracts is creamy white or yellow with a yellow, rarely black-purple basal spot, the underside of the outer has a broad, red median stripe. The (2) 3 to 4 (5) leaves are more or less spread out, gray-green, at most slightly wavy, glabrous and ciliate at the edge. The bottom sheet is 2 to 20 centimeters wide. The onion skins are more or less hairy on the inside.
Flowering time is from March to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The water lily tulip comes in western Tian Chan , in Kuraminsk- and Chatkal Mountains east Tashkent and in Taboshar rock bushes and rocky slopes of the lower and middle mountain stage before.
use
The water lily tulip is used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and borders. It has been in culture since 1877 at the latest. The species forms hybrids with Tulipa fosteriana and Tulipa greigii .
