Tulus is a Norwegian black metal band from Oslo that was formed in 1993.

Band history

Tulus was founded in 1991 by singer and guitarist Sverre Stokland (Blodstrop). In 1994 the first demo Samlerens Kammer was created , followed by another demo called Midvintermåne . In 1996 the debut album Pure Black Energy was created , which was initially released as an in-house production limited to 100 pieces, but was then reissued by Hot Records . At that time the line-up consisted of Blodstrop of Gottskalk (bass) and Sarke (drums).

In 1998 the second album Mysterion was released , again on Hot Records. Sarah Jezebel Deva , known as the singer for Cradle of Filth , Therion and The Kovenant , could be won as a prominent guest singer . The last regular album Evil followed in 1999 on Hammerheart Records . On this album Sir Graanug played the bass. Then the band broke up. Gard, as Blodstrop called himself now, Sir Graamung and Sarke founded the band Khold together with Lars Eikind . In 2000 the compilation Cold Core Collection was released , which contains the first two demos and the first two albums as well as two cover versions: Slowly We Rot by Obituary and Space Oddity by David Bowie on two CDs .

When Khold announced an indefinite hiatus in 2006, Sarke, Sir Graanung and Gard reactivated the band Tulus and released the concept album Biography Obscene via Indie Recordings in 2007 . It is about a man called "the collector" who grew up alone in the forest and follows dark inclinations. In 2008 Khold returned with Hundre år gammal . Since then, both bands have existed in parallel with an almost identical line-up. Then Sir Graanung (Victor Cito Borge) separated from both bands to join the hard rock band TNT . As a replacement, Crowbel (Stian M. Kråbøl) was found, who was previously active at Minas Tirith . In 2012 the album Olm og Bitter followed on Tabu Recordings.

style

Even the debut Pure Black Energy is held in a primitive style between Darkthrone and Satyricon . The slower moments resemble the style of the band Khold , which emerged from Tulus. This music remained an integral part of the band and runs through the entire discography. The lyrics come from Sverre Stokland and his wife Hildr, who is an unofficial member of both Khold and Tulus' band. With the exception of the concept album Biography Obscene, they are written in Norwegian and deal with mystical topics.
