Tuncer Edil

Tuncer Edil (born July 25, 1945 in Konya ) is a Turkish-born American civil engineer who specializes in geotechnical engineering and is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison .

He studied in Istanbul (Master's degree in 1969) and received his doctorate from Northwestern University in 1973 . Since 1980 he has been Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Among other things, he dealt with the use of industrial waste (such as fly ash, shredded car tires, processed asphalt and concrete waste) in road construction ( “green” highways ) and geotechnics and the behavior of geotechnical materials as a barrier against organic substances. In addition, he also deals with classic geotechnical topics such as the stability of embankments on banks and landslides, friction between the ground and structures as well as geosynthetics (such as geotextiles ), compressibility of peat soils and recycled materials and waste with a high water content.

In 2013 he received the Terzaghi Award .

He is a US citizen.
