The Imberg Tunnel is a railway tunnel on the new Wendlingen – Ulm line . It is located in the planning approval section 2.3 of the new line. The building permit for this section has been in place since November 2008.

The shell of the tunnel has been completed (as of 2017).

planning

The planning approval decision for the section of the new line in which the tunnel is located was issued on November 12, 2008. The tunnel is located between construction kilometers 66.586 and 67.085. At the end of December 2012, the construction contract for the approx. 6.6 km long section on the Alb plateau (km 61.4 to 68.0), which also includes the tunnel, was put out to tender. Execution planning and structural work for this section of the route were awarded at the end of 2013 for a total value of 61.9 million euros to a consortium of the companies J.Bunte / Stutz. Seven offers were received. Around 220 meters of the tunnel are to be built using mining techniques. The railway is assuming a construction time of two years. The two tracks are in a tube.

Tunnel work (November 2015)

The mining of the tunnel began at the end of March 2015. The symbolic tunnel construction with tunnel baptism followed on April 22nd. In the mining part, the cap was broken through on June 30, 2015.

The tunnel partially penetrates karst limestone .

More than 1,100 people attended an open construction site day on October 25, 2015.

The shell of the structure is to be completed in mid-2016.
