Tupi is an Arabica - coffee variety that in Brazil one of a Timor and Villa Sarchi was crossed. The plant was named after the indigenous Tupi language , which was spoken in today's breeding area of ​​the plant, along the coast of Brazil, before the arrival of the Portuguese. The Tupi variety is considered to be resistant to coffee rust . A susceptibility to nematodes is reduced, but given.

Cultivation and Yield

It is a high-growing variety that is cultivated at a height of 2.00 to 2.20 meters and has an average yield of 500 to 600 g of green coffee per plant. Tupi is suitable for bending methods. The Tupi has expansive branches and should therefore be planted in a row at least 1.20 meters apart.

In the cup (Cup Quality)

Under ideal cultivation, processing and roasting conditions, the quality in the cup has the potential to become so-called “ third wave coffee ” (“specialty coffee”). Depending on the growing region, the Tupi has different aroma profiles, which can range from chocolate, vanilla, tea, rooibus, through fruity and floral notes to peach and apricot.
