Tuponia brevirostris is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 1.9 to 2.6 millimeters long. The species of the genus Tuponia have pale splints ( tibiae ) that carry long, dark spurs that arise from small black dots. Tuponia brevirostris is uniformly green in color, with the outer edge of the hemielytras being paler and often whitish. The tip of the cuneus is white.
Occurrence and habitat
The Mediterranean species is distributed from southern France to the Black Sea region and further east to Central Asia. It was introduced in the south of England, where it was first detected in 2001 in London and is now widespread on the south coast of England. In Germany, the species has been proven from Rhineland-Palatinate since 2007.
Way of life
The bugs suckle on tamarisks ( Tamarix ) and panicle bushes ( Myricaria ). In the Mediterranean region, overwintering takes place as an egg and the adults presumably appear in two generations from May to September.
