The Tupopdan (also Tlipobdan ) is a mountain in the northern Karakoram in Pakistan's special territory Gilgit-Baltistan .

location

With a height of 6106  m (according to other sources 6125  m ) the summit forms the south-western end of the Ghujerab Mountains . The Tupopdan rises 12 km north-northeast of Passu . On its southwest flank, the Shimshal flows into the Hunza . The Tupopdan towers above the valley floor by 3500 m. 4.35 km further northwest is the 6,055  m high Jurju Khona Shar .

The name of the mountain means something like "a piece of sun". Other names of Tupopdan are Passu Cones ("Passu cone") or Passu Cathedral ("Passu Cathedral").

Ascent history

The Tupopdan was first climbed in 1987 by a five-person British expedition. Andy Cave and John Stevenson reached the summit on July 6th. The ascent route led through the Markhun Valley to the north side of the mountain and over the northeast ridge to the summit.
