The Shimshal (or Shimshal ) is a 75-km-long left tributary of Hunza in Karakorum -Gebirge.

The Shimshal arises at the glacier mouth of the Virjerab Glacier in the north of the Pakistani special territory Gilgit-Baltistan not far from the border with the People's Republic of China . The Shimshal flows in a westerly direction through the high mountains. The Shimshal drains the glaciated mountain range Hispar Muztagh to the north. The following glaciers flow from the south towards the Shimshal valley and feed the Shimshal river (order from east to west): Khurdoping glacier , Yukshin-Gardan glacier , Yazghil glacier , Malangutti glacier , Lupghar-Yaz glacier , Ghutuji-Yar glacier and Momhil glacier . To the north of the Shimshal valley lie the Ghujerab Mountains , another group of mountains in the Karakoram. After about 25 km the river passes the Shimshal settlement of the same name on the south bank . From there, a spur road follows the lower 50 km of the river to the confluence with the Hunza, 3 km north of the village of Passu .
