Kerstin Thorborg
Kerstin Thorborg (born May 19, 1896 in Söromsjöbygden , † April 12, 1970 in Hedemora , Dalarna Province ) was a Swedish opera singer ( alto ).
Life
In the two decades up to her stage farewell in 1950, the contralto Thorborg was one of the leading dramatic Wagner singers in the world with a large stage presence.
After her debut at the Royal Opera in 1923 as Lola ( soprano ) in Cavalleria rusticana , she worked in Stockholm (until 1930), Berlin (until 1934), Vienna (until 1938) and New York ( Metropolitan Opera ). Although she was an alto, she also became famous for several mezzo-soprano roles , including A. as Venus in Tannhauser .
