Locations

The listed holding company and the sales center for Europe are located at the headquarters in Hattingen . The US business is bundled in Turbon USA, Inc. in Pennsauken (New Jersey), with logistics locations in York (Pennsylvania) and San Diego (California).

The production is located in Calarasi (Romania), Bled (Slovenia), Bangpoo ( Samut Prakan , Thailand) and Mexico , as well as in Feldkirchen in Carinthia (Austria) because of low unit labor costs . The locations in California and Mexico were taken over in 2014 with the US competitor International Laser Group ; Slovenia and Austria were added in 2015 with the takeover of the Austrian partner company Embatex AG .

history

The company was founded in 1962 as Turbon International GmbH . The purpose was the manufacture and sale of " typing products of all kinds" as well as the trade in typewriters , calculating machines and accessories. With the advent of electronic data processing , the range was expanded to include corresponding office technology items.

Ribbons , especially for matrix printers, became the main product . Refilled ink cartridges , monochrome and finally different colored cartridges for laser printers were added later. The change in printing technologies repeatedly presented the company with the challenge of converting the business model and production to a new technology. Today laser cartridges are the only product mentioned. Around 80 percent of sales come from monochrome products and 20 percent (and rising) from color products (as of 2014 [obsolete] ).

In the boom year 2000 Turbon achieved record sales of around DM 300 million . By 2013, sales had halved to € 75 million due to competitive pressure, the loss of major customers and the abandonment of unprofitable products. Turbon always remained profitable, with EBIT margins between 1 and 9% (8% in 2013), and paid dividends regularly . The takeover of International Laser Group and another US company raised sales in 2014 to over € 100 million again. This meant that half of the business was in North America.

Listing and shareholders

Turbon has been listed on the stock exchange since 1991 and is now on the regulated market in Frankfurt .

After the IPO , the founder and CEO Klaus Turbon held 67.5% of the shares; the rest was in free float . At the end of the 1990s, the main shareholder sold approx. 26% of the company's shares to the printer and printing material manufacturer NCR , while the remaining family shares were transferred to the new CEO, Holger Brückmann-Turbon. In June 2014 Holger Brückmann-Turbon bought back the NCR shares and has held almost 75% of the shares since then. He financed the buyback with high special dividend payments, which drove the share price to new highs in a low interest rate environment. The difference to the original 67.5% can be explained by the company's share buybacks.
