The Turmhügelburg Attendorn is an Outbound small Turmhügelburg (moth), whose remains close to Attendorn - Bürberg in North Rhine-Westphalia are. It is believed that it was built around the 13th century.

location

The remains of the small tower complex are located about 450 meters southeast of Attendorn-Bürberg and about one kilometer below Berlinghausen on the north side of the Bremgebach, a side inlet of the Biggetalsperre .

description

Today's condition of the moth

The complex consisted of a hill that is still around 2 m high and has a diameter of around 20 m. In front of the tower hill there is a dam at a distance of about 35 m, which runs parallel to the Bremgebach valley and after 40 m it bends at right angles to the slope. To the north, the facility was secured by a steep rock face, to the west by a deeply cutting stream with a steep slope towards the mountain “Keschott”. With this dam, the course of the stream and the Bremgebach were dammed around the tower hill, so that the hill was difficult to conquer and could only be reached via the water surface. Access was probably via a path leading from the north to the water surface and from here probably via a wooden retractable bridge.

So far, edge and wall fragments of various vessels from the 11th to 13th centuries as well as four reddish-white wall fragments of stove tiles and a jug with neck grooves from the 13th to 14th centuries have been found on the area, as well as an iron key. When a pond was set up in 1969, remains of an enclosure wall with slight traces of mortar were found at the foot of the hill. In more recent times the dam to the Bremgebach was leveled and destroyed. Systems of the same type are located in Altfinnentrop and Frielentrop.

history

The small castle complex can be seen as the seat of the Lords of Bruchhausen or "Brokhusen", who had held the main Bürberg courtyard as an arnsberg fiefdom since 1338 . They were also enfeoffed with the main courtyard in "Berynchusen" in 1371 by the Archbishop of Cologne, Friedrich von Saar Werden . Tradition has it that the castle was destroyed by Attendorn citizens. The goods belonging to the castle came to the lords of Hanxleden zu Fredeburg in the 15th century . In the 16th century the goods belonged to the Ewig monastery for a time .

legend

There is a legend about a robbery castle with a robber baron who is said to have lived on the Bürberg near Attendorn:

“He always nailed the hooves on his horses the wrong way, so you never knew when he was up and when he was down. From his castle there were also fishing ropes going down into the valley, as well as through the forest, to which bells were attached, so that if someone struck them, the knight and his companions immediately fell down into the valley and plundered them or dragged them away as prisoners. The Attendorns, who suffered most from it, finally besieged him in his castle and destroyed it; but he escaped them happily and fled to Heroes, but here the peasants recognized him and killed him. The Attendorners then confiscated all of his goods, and that's why they still have such large land holdings today. "
