Tylecodon kritzingeri is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Tylecodon kritzingeri grows from a bulbous base with a diameter of up to 3 centimeters as a climbing and little branched shrub and is up to 100 centimeters high. The tuberous roots are elongated and reach up to 1 centimeter in diameter. The ascending shoots are gray and have dark stripes. They grow to be 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The linear to linear-elliptical leaves are 2 to 4 centimeters long and 2 to 4 millimeters wide. They are bare, green in color and spread out. The blunt or pointed tips of the leaves are often bent back or turned back and are used as a climbing aid. The upper side of the leaf is furrowed, the underside convex.
The inflorescence is formed by spreading thyrses up to 20 centimeters high , each with 1 to 3 monochasias and 1 to 3 spread out to upright individual flowers. The inflorescence stalk is up to 18 centimeters long and reaches a diameter of 1.5 millimeters. The stalk of the single flowers is 1.2 to 2 inches long. The triangular-lanceolate and bald sepals are pointed and 5 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. The tubular corolla tube is 20 millimeters long and has a diameter of 4 millimeters at the base, which widens to 7 millimeters towards the throat. The extended and later bent back tips are pointed and 8 to 10 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. They are dark maroon to reddish in color on the upper side.
Systematics and distribution
Tylecodon kritzingeri is widespread in South Africa in the Northern Cape Province in the Succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1983 by Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld .
