Tylecodon tenuis is a plant of the genus Tylecodon in the family of Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon tenuis grows as a dwarf and climbing succulent with a single, spreading shoot from a tuberous rooted base 2 cm in diameter. The flesh of the soft tuber is whitish and the rind does not peel off. The zigzag curved shoots are up to 16 cm long and 1.5 to 2.0 mm in diameter. They are initially green in color and glandular hair, then covered with white, raised longitudinal ribs and short, trimmed, up to 1 mm long phyllopodia . The almost stalk-round leaves are narrowly elliptical to narrowly obovate, 8 to 18 mm long and have a diameter of 4 to 8 mm. They are densely covered with long and clubbed hair. The leaf blade is furrowed on the top, wedge-shaped at the base and blunt at the tip.

The inflorescences form up to 4 cm long, spread out thyrs with 1 to 3 monochasias , which each end in 1 to 3 upright to spread out single flowers. The sepals are triangular to lanceolate, the tubular corolla is 8 mm long and green. At the base it has a diameter of 4 mm, towards the throat it is slightly narrowed and covered with clubbed glandular hairs. The greenish tips have reddish stripes on both sides. The yellow nectar flakes are elongated, upright and have a fine edge. They are 1.5 mm long and 0.5 mm wide.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon tenuis is widespread in the Western Cape Province of South Africa in the Succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1977 by Hellmut Richard Tölken as cotyledon pygmaea var. Tenuis . A year later, Tölken combined the variety and placed it as Tylecodon pygmaeus var. Tenuis to the genus Tylecodon . In 1992 Peter Vincent Bruyns described the plants as a separate species.
