Tylecodon wallichii is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon wallichii grows as a small, little branched shrub and reaches a height of 50 centimeters. It forms a single, grayish black main shoot that reaches 6 centimeters in diameter. The younger, gray-green shoots are up to 1.5 centimeters in diameter and are covered with long, closely spaced phyllopodia. These have pointed tips and are 15 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide. The gray-green, closely spaced leaves appear on the shoot ends. They are ascending and curved inwards, glabrous, linear, pointed towards the tip, pedicel-round or provided with a shallow furrow on the top and are 6.5 to 9.5 centimeters long and 5 to 6 millimeters wide. The leaf base is wedge-shaped and the pointed tip is yellowish with a reddish tip.

The ascending inflorescence , often covered with glandular hairs and up to 45 centimeters high, consists of thyrses with up to 8 upright monochasia . The inflorescence stalks, which are up to 34 centimeters long, have a diameter of 5 millimeters at the base. The spread to pendulous single flowers have a 4 to 5 millimeter long stem. The triangular sepals are 3 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. The tubular corolla is 7 to 12 millimeters long and is yellowish in color. The tips are spread out or bent back.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon wallichii is common in Namibia and South Africa. The first description was in 1862 by William Henry Harvey as Cotyledon wallichii . Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .

There are two subspecies:

  • Tylecodon wallichii subsp. ecklonianus (Harv.) Toelken (synonyms: Cotyledon eckloniana Harv. , Tylecodon papillaris subsp. ecklonianus (Harv.) GDRowley and Cotyledon dinteri Baker f. ); the pedicels and pedicels of the subspecies are glabrous and the corolla lobes sparsely covered with glandular eyelashes.
  • Tylecodon wallichii subsp. wallichii

Synonyms are Cotyledon wallichii Harv. and Tylecodon papillaris subsp. wallichii G.D. Rowley .
