The Tymfristos ( Greek Τυμφρηστός spoken Timfristos; also Velouchi Βελούχι) is a 2,315 m high mountain in the Regional District Evrytania the region Central Greece . It is located at the southern end of the Pindos Mountains and delimits the valley of the Karpenissiotis river to the west against the valley of the Sperchios . The Karpenissiotis rises on its western flank, the Sperchios on its eastern flank. The river Tavropos (Megdova) flows around the Tymfristos in the north and west . The city of Karpenisi is located south of the Tymfristos .
The Velouchi ski area is located on the Tymfristos . Despite this tourist use, the Tymfristos massif is a biotope in the sense of the NATURA2000 program. The protected area covers 4000 ha with an average altitude of 1700 m.
The Tymfristos is of the national road 38 ( Europastraße 952 ) of West ( Agrinio , Karpenissi) to east ( Lamia happens) and partially traverses (Tymfristos tunnel).
