Mastersingers

The type 50/15 was a bulk carrier built by the Flensburger Schiffsbau-Gesellschaft between 1973 and 1977 .

history

The type of ship was an open bulk carrier in double hull design with nine cargo holds, superstructures arranged very aft and an engine room. The shipyard constructed the more modern ship design in the early 1970s. The series consisted of two variants with different cargo space layout. The construction without cranes had five short and two long holds with nine hatches and smaller hatch openings, which were closed by Navire sliding hatch covers of the "lift and roll" type. It was primarily intended for use in conventional ore and bulk goods transport, but could also be used in container transport. The second variant with cranes had bigger cargo holds with significantly larger hatch openings and hydraulic Kvaerner - Faltlukendeckeln that suitable made the ships the bulk trip out especially for the transport of bulk goods such as wood package, tubes, paper or cellulose. The mostly box-shaped holds were designed with smooth inner walls and little under - storage due to the double hull , the hold volume was 66,000 m³. The four ships for Cosima were not equipped with loading gear, three of the four Toepfer ships and the rest of the series received six electrohydraulic 20-tonne slewing cranes from Liebherr . In later years, some of the cranes were removed from some units, and Warsaw , which was originally craned , was converted into a self-unloader.

The drive of the pure bulk consisted of the Bremer Vulkan externally supplied twelve-cylinder four-stroke V-diesel engine type MAN 12V 52/55 with a capacity of 12,000 horsepower, or a fourteen-cylinder, four-stroke V-diesel engine type MAN 14V52 / 55 with a power of 12,600 hp each to a Escher-Wyss - pitch propellers worked. The wood products transporter had a sixteen-cylinder four-stroke V-diesel engine of the type MAN 16V 52 / 55A with an output of 14,400 hp.

On November 29, 1973 the shipyard delivered the type ship Meistersinger to its client, the Cosima Reederei from Munich. In the following years ten more new buildings of the type with around 50,000 tons of load capacity were built.

The Tom Jacob brought a boat with 370 refugees in tow to Thailand in the mid-1970s.
