The Eagle series of the Meridian type from the Warnow shipyard is a series of all-purpose semi-container ships .

history

The Berlin capital of the GDR in Rostock

The series was manufactured in 33 units from 1972 to 1981. The ships, which can be used as full or open decks, are used for the transport of general cargo, containers, industry and heavy cargo, but also bulk and refrigerated cargoes, wood and latex. Part of the series was built for the Deutsche Seereederei , the rest was exported to numerous, partly western countries. The first four ships are as Meridian I called. The following units of the type Meridian II are almost seven meters longer with otherwise the same basic data.

  • The first ship and namesake of the series was the Eagle handed over on June 14, 1972 with the home port Monrovia and the hull number 401. It was operated as Seven Star I from 1984 and stranded on August 13, 1985 northeast of Preparis Island in northeast India and was then canceled from December 21, 1985 in Huangpu .
  • The last ship in the series was the Risan , built in September 1981 with hull number 424. She last sailed under the name Destiny and arrived in Bangladesh in April 2011 for demolition.

Part of the successful ship series is still in service today.

technology

The ships are powered by a 8240 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K8Z 70 / 120E manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock , which acts directly on a fixed propeller. The machine system is partially automated.

The hulls of the ships are assembled in a sectional construction. The deckhouse is air-conditioned and equipped with one-man chambers.

From the fifth ship onwards, the five cargo holds have a volume of 17,490 m³ grain space and 16,633 m³ bale space have an intermediate deck. If required, 303 TEU containers, 792 m³ refrigerated cargo and 840 m³ latex can be transported, whereby 1700 tons of wood or 1200 tons of general cargo may be loaded on deck, depending on the load. The ships are equipped with eight 5/10 ton loading booms, three 22 ton loading booms, one 80 ton heavy lifting boom and a ship crane with a 5 ton capacity.
