Type-Moon is a Japanese game developer of eroge - visual novels (erotic, interactive novels) founded by the author Kinoko Nasu and the illustrator Takashi Takeuchi .

Originally, Type-Moon was a Dōjin Circle (Fan Circle ) by Nasu and Takeuchi. After the great commercial success of their work Tsukihime , which even received an anime version as Dōjin Game , and Melty Blood , they founded the company YK Notes ( 有限会社 ノ ー ツ , Yūgen-gaisha Nōtsu ) based on Nasu's short story Notes in 2003 . , from which the name Type-Moon originates, and whose director is Takeuchi. Type-Moon has been the brand under which this company has been operating ever since. Another well-known work is Fate / stay night .

history

Type-Moon was founded by the illustrator Takashi Takeuchi and the writer Kinoko Nasu , whose first major project was the novel Kara no Kyōkai . It was first published on the Internet in October 1998 and then published as a book by Kodansha Verlag in 2004 and 2007 . In December 2000, Type Moon published the eroge visual novel Tsukihime for PC on Comiket , which sold more than 100,000 copies just through word of mouth. This game was adapted , very rarely for fan productions, in 2003 as the anime series Shingetsutan Tsukihime by JCStaff , based on which a manga series followed in 2004 .

In January 2001, Type-Moon released the Plus-Disk , an expansion for Tsukihime that introduced three side stories, along with multimedia content. In August 2001 the continuation of Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tōya followed . In April 2003, a box named Tsuki-Bako was released, which contained three CDs: Tsukihime , Plus + Disk (an expanded version of the Plus Disc ) and Kagetsu Tōya , as well as a remix soundtrack for both games.

In December 2002, Type Moon published in cooperation with the dojin Circle Watanabe Seisakusho (from 2003 French Bread ), which specializes in fighting games, the fighting game with visual novel elements Melty Blood , which is based on the Tsukihime universe. The Melty Blood: ReACT expansion pack followed in May 2004 . A patch update called Melty Blood: ReACT Final Tuned was offered as a free download. Also unusual for Dōjin Games, the game received ports through Ecole Software only in March 2005 for the arcade machine Sega NAOMI and then in August 2006 for the PlayStation 2 .

Type-Moon went from a dōjin circle to a commercial company called Notes in 2003 , whose first commercial / professional computer game was the eroge visual novel Fate / stay night on January 30, 2004 . The game was adapted on December 26, 2005 in Shōnen Ace magazine as a manga series that is still running today (as of March 2011), in 2006 as a 24-part anime series and on January 23, 2010 as the movie Fate / stay night Unlimited Blade Works . A sequel to Fate / stay night called Fate / hollow ataraxia was released on October 28, 2005. In May 2007, Fate / stay night was ported to the PlayStation 2.

At the 72nd Comiket in 2007 they released the All Around TYPE-MOON drama CD .
