The Tyr rune , also known as the battle rune , was a badge of the Reichsführer- schools of the NSDAP . It was awarded exclusively to successful school leavers and was worn on the left upper arm of the party uniform, above the swastika armband . Confirmation of receipt was first issued to the owner and a certificate was sent a short time later.

Background to the creation of this badge

When the National Socialists came to power in January 1933, the NSDAP began to massively expand its organizational structures throughout the German Reich in the following months. However, this enormous "expansion policy" on the political stage soon brought with it new problems. So the NSDAP could hardly meet its need for politically correctly trained leaders from its own ranks. Out of this necessity, the idea arose which led to the establishment of the "Course for Political Leaders".

Teaching content

The course for the aspiring political leaders usually lasted several weeks and essentially consisted of:

  • Nazi ideology principles;
  • Basic military knowledge;
  • basic legal knowledge;
  • Sport as well
  • Study trips at home and abroad.

The costs of the course were covered by the NSDAP itself. Other badges and courses applied to members of the Hitler Youth and the Technical Emergency Aid .

Content of a Bavarian service regulation

The Reichsfuhrer School in Munich has the task of further training leaders of all grades - primarily middle and higher - primarily ideological. Their courses, which last 3 to 6 weeks, are attended by leaders of all group areas according to a special distribution decreed by the Supreme SA leadership. Leaders who have attended a course at the Reichsfuhrer School are awarded the “loyalty badge” determined by the Supreme SA leadership.

Others

The badge featured a Tyr rune ( Tiwaz : ᛏ) named after the Germanic god Tyr .
