The U-23 World Baseball Championship is an international baseball tournament between the U-23 national baseball teams organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation . It was first held in Taichung , Taiwan in 2014 . In the first edition, the tournament was played as the U-21 World Cup, with the exception of six players who were older than 21 years. Since 2016, the maximum age of players has been raised to 23 years. Defending champion currently Mexico.
