The Frankhplatz underground station is part of the expansion project Linienkreuz U2 / U5 and is currently under construction on the Vienna underground , which has been under construction since February 2019 and is due to open in 2025. For the time being, it will be the terminus of the newly built U5 . This station will be the first completely newly built station on the U5, as the other stations coming from Karlsplatz were previously used by the U2 line . In a further expansion phase, the underground line for the U5 in the direction of Elterleinplatz is to be expanded from this station .

In the vicinity of the new station are the campus of the University of Vienna and other faculties and institutes of the University of Vienna , the Austrian Financial Market Authority , the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Regional Court for Criminal Matters Vienna with the attached Vienna Josefstadt Prison . You will also be able to change to tram lines 43 and 44 at today's Landesgerichtsstraße stop , which will be moved to the south side of the street to the New Institute building (NIG) . There should be an entrance to the U5. A second access is to be built in Schwarzspanierstrasse.

Neighboring stations along the U5 are the Rathaus metro station and, from the opening of the second part of the U2 / U5 expansion project, the Arne-Karlsson-Park metro station .
