The U-Bahn-Wache ( Münchner U-Bahn-Bewachungsgesellschaft mbH ; MUG) is a security company commissioned by the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft GmbH to ensure the security and order of the Munich subway . The company is 51% owned by Stadtwerke München GmbH and 49% by Securitas GmbH.

history

Before the U-Bahn guard was set up, the Munich subway was initially looked after by the Black Sheriffs (ZSD), who came under fire in the 1980s due to several scandals . The establishment of a U-Bahn guard took place on the basis of a city council resolution in the summer of 1988. Since April 1, 1989, the employees of the Munich U-Bahn-Bewachungsgesellschaft mbH have been on duty at the Munich U-Bahn.

On January 1, 2009, the Securitas company handed over the security contract from Securitas GmbH ÖPNV to Securitas Sicherheit & Service GmbH & Co. KG. Securitas GmbH ÖPNV is still responsible as a subcontractor of Securitas Sicherheit & Service for the handling of early and late shifts. Guarding the Munich subway was therefore carried out by two companies for some time. At that time there were two different uniforms. The underground guards of Securitas ÖPNV wore blue shirts and the employees of Securitas & Service wore blue shirts with bright yellow shoulder pieces.

This difference arose from a contentious transfer of business. The public company Securitas tried to change the conditions for employees by restructuring. In order to achieve this, the security contract was reassigned internally. All employees then had to reapply and sign a new employment contract. 44 employees refused. For this reason, the old employees were refused the new uniform by the Labor Director Marks of Securitas. Until the court decision (transfer of operations), the U-Bahn guard could be seen wearing different uniforms.

The U-Bahn guard is sometimes on the move in mixed strips with the Bavarian State Police .

Emergency vehicle of the Munich subway station, also accident rescue vehicle

In 2009, 125 employees, including 12 women, did their job. In 1989 there were 45 employees and in 1998 there were 77. The MUG emergency services are safety specialists (SFK). They patrol subways and subway stations on foot or in the subways.

The security guards were uniformed in blue until 2009 , since then in blue with bright yellow shoulder pieces. They are equipped with radios and armed with firearms . Until 2009, there were ranks and careers as with police officers (middle service with light blue epaulettes, higher service with silver-colored epaulettes and higher service with gold-colored epaulets). The ranks of the employees of the U-Bahnwache Sicherheit & Service (recognizable with yellow applications on the shirts) have been deleted without replacement.

The U-Bahnwache also has its own cars and minibuses. Some of the vehicles serve as emergency rescue vehicles and are therefore equipped with special signals (blue light and siren). However, this may only be used for emergency trips in the context of accident relief.

The U-Bahnwache is not a police force and as such does not have any sovereign rights . It can only enforce the house rules of the MVG and, like every citizen, make use of rights such as self-defense and arrest of everyone.
