The Dalbergstraße underground station is the only underground station on the Mannheim tram . It was built in 1971 as part of the planning for the construction of a subway in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen . Today, the Dalbergstraße stop is an on-the-go station on tram line 2, which runs between Neckarstadt-West and Feudenheim .

location

The underground stop Dalbergstraße is located directly under the Luisenring , which as part of the city center road ring in the city center / Jungbusch district runs between the city center and Jungbusch . In the immediate vicinity, the eponymous Dalbergstrasse joins the Luisenring. The stop is between the two above-ground stations, MVV-Hochhaus, and the Rheinstrasse tram stop, designed as a tower station .

history

In the course of the business card project , which also envisaged the construction of a subway for Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, from the 1960s onwards, tunnel routes with underground stations were initially only built in Ludwigshafen. Mannheim renounced the introduction of an underground and continued to rely on the tram . In 1971 , however, the first and to this day only tunnel section was put into operation in Mannheim. It runs under the Luisenring and has a single stop on Dalbergstrasse. This approximately 500 meter long tunnel was necessary in order to be able to manage the complex bridge access to the Kurt Schumacher Bridge from Mannheim to Ludwigshafen. Since then, the line under the Luisenring has been an underground tram .

construction

The Dalbergstraße station has two tracks, each on an outside platform . Similar to most underground stations, there are support pillars between the two tracks to ensure the stability of the structure. The station has only one underground level on which the trams run. In contrast to the Ludwigshafen underground stations, the Dalbergstraße stop has no track information.
