The Sant'Ambrogio station is an underground station of the metro called Metropolitana di Milano in the northern Italian metropolis of Milan . It is on the M2 line, the longest of the four metro lines in Milan at 39.4 kilometers, which runs from the suburbs of Cologno Monzese and Gessate to the north-east of the city and runs across the city to the south-west of Milan's suburb of Assago . The station is located in the western part of the city center and was named after the Sant'Ambrogio basilica , which is located around 200 meters northeast of the subway station.
history
The station was on 30 October 1983 as part of the extension of the M2 from Metro Station Cadorna to metro station Porta Genova opened.
future
With the new M4 metro line under construction, Sant'Ambrogio station is expected to become a transfer station between lines M2 and M4 from 2022. The M4 runs from the San Cristoforo regional train station on the south-west of Milan through the southern city center to Linate Airport , the smaller of the two Milanese airports, to the east of the city .
