The Milano Porta Genova train station ( Italian : Stazione di Milano Porta Genova ) is a train station in the northern Italian city of Milan . It is operated by the state railway company RFI and serves as the starting point for the Milan – Mortara railway line .
history
The station was opened in 1870 as a through station on the Milan – Mortara railway line with the name Milano Porta Ticinese .
In 1923 it was renamed Milano Porta Genova .
In 1931, with the closure of the old Central Station and the western ring line, it became the terminus of the Milano – Mortara railway line .
On October 30, 1983, the Porta Genova FS underground station opened under the station .

Regional trains on the Milano – Mortara line run from the station every hour. In rush hour, some pairs of trains continue to and from Alessandria via Mortara .
Under the station is the Porta Genova underground station , which is served by trains on the M2 line of the Metropolitana di Milano .
There are plans to shut down the Porta Genova train station and to build a new urban quarter on the site. The trains would then run via the southern belt railway to the Milano Rogoredo station.
