UN-Energy
UN-Energy is a mechanism in the United Nations system in the field of energy . It was founded in 2002 following the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg . Its purpose is to implement a coherent approach to a sustainable energy system, especially in developing countries, in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals .
In order to achieve this, UN-Energy assesses energy-relevant activities within the UN system and tries to standardize them. At present, UN-Energy is a very small unit in the UN, it has not even achieved program status.
The current chairman of UN-Energy is Kandeh Yumkella, Director General of the UN Organization for Industrial Development UNIDO .
