The USS Cincinnati (CL-6) was an Omaha-class light cruiser of the United States Navy . It is the third US ship to be named after the city of Cincinnati .

history

Laid down on May 15, 1920 in Tacoma in the state of Washington , been launched on 23 May 1921 and put into service on 1 January 1924, the ship participated in the Second World War in part. The cruiser operated in the Atlantic and the Caribbean until 1932 , interrupted by stationing in Shanghai and Manila in 1927/1928. Then the Cincinnati was assigned to the Pacific Fleet until March 1941 . During World War II, the cruiser was used for patrols and as an escort ship mainly in the western Atlantic and the Caribbean. On November 21, 1942, the German blockade breaker Annaliese Essberger was arrested together with the USS Milwaukee and the USS Somers .

After the war, the obsolete ship was decommissioned on November 1, 1945 and scrapped in 1947.
