The USS Fargo (CL-106) was a light cruiser of the United States Navy .
history
The USS Fargo entered service on December 9, 1945. She was the lead ship of the Fargo class , but it remained quite small as only two units were completed. The remaining construction contracts were canceled because the war had already ended. In contrast to the Cleveland class , the following changes were made: a single, but thicker chimney, the huddled structures, changed positions of the two fire control devices Mk 34 and Mk 37 and, for reasons of better stability, the installation of the 12.7 cm twin towers one deck below. The two aircraft catapults on the aft deck were expanded in 1948 to make room for a helicopter landing pad. In addition, the SR-3 radar was on the front mast, the SP on the aft.
Calls
From April 15, 1946, the goodwill trip to Bermuda, Trinidad, Brazil and Uruguay took place. Following this, the USS Fargo sailed into the Mediterranean on May 31, 1946. On May 20, 1947, she began another voyage to the Mediterranean, where she was COMNAVFORMED's flagship for a month. On September 13, 1947, she returned to the east coast. Until the decommissioning on February 14, 1950, the USS Fargo took part in a maneuver in the Atlantic as the flagship of the “2nd Task Fleet” and in two further missions in the Mediterranean.
