The USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) was a destroyer of the Charles F. Adams-class destroyer in the service of the United States Navy .

The Lynde McCormick was commissioned by Defoe Shipbuilding Company in 1957 and was launched at the Bay City , Michigan shipyard in 1959, where she was christened by Admiral McCormic's daughter Lillian. The commissioning took place in 1961.
The ship's first voyage began in 1962 and led the Lynde McCormick into Japanese waters. In 1964 the destroyer relocated to take part in the Vietnam War, another voyage followed in 1966. Here the guns of the Lynde McCormick were used in coastal bombardments, later they performed radar surveillance for aircraft carriers at Yankee Station . She finally spent the turn of the year 1966/1967 in the shipyard, where the first overhaul was due. The next mission in the Pacific followed in 1967, when an explosion occurred on board in December while the ship was in the port of Sasebo , which injured two seamen.
In 1988 the Lynde McCormick took part in Operation Praying Mantis , where they set fire to an Iranian oil platform with their guns.
In 1992 the Lynde McCormick was removed from the ship register and used as a power plant in the San Francisco Bay . On February 24, 2001, the ship was finally sunk in an exercise as a target ship.
