The Unione Sportiva Marosticense is an Italian football club from the small town of Marostica . The first team currently plays in the 6th Italian league, the Campionato di Eccellenza .

history

US Marosticense was founded in 1900 by employees of a company in Marostica which manufactured straw hats . For the upcoming trip to Genoa , from where the straw hats were shipped all over the world, a soccer team was organized by Carl Serafini and Francisco Blows to compete against a Genoese team on this occasion. Even after this game, various events were held by the active members. In 1909 a group of young men around Gianno Cecchin, who was to be awarded a medal of honor for his services during the First World War , reorganized and reorganized the association.

In January 1919 Lorenzo Padovan became the new president of the association. With him, in addition to soccer, other sports were taken up and actively pursued in the US Marosticense association. Thanks to a donation from Cavaliere Joseph Rubbi, a football pitch with changing rooms and mounds of earth was built as a grandstand on Via Campo Sportivo in 1927 . Years later, due to the rise of fascism and the Second World War, gaming operations were stopped. After the end of the war, the association's activities were resumed on May 15, 1945. The then newly drawn up statutes of the association have remained almost unchanged to this day.

In the 1945/1946 season, the US Marosticense won the championship in the 1st division, which meant promotion to Serie C. For economic reasons, however, the doctorate was waived. 1952/53 you won the championship in the Campionato di 1ª Categoria. As one of the first amateur clubs in Italy, the US Marosticense began to maintain its own football teams for the young (then called NAGS) from 1967. In the following decades, the first team commuted between the leagues Campionato di 2ª Categoria (9th league), Campionato di 1ª Categoria (8th), Campionato di Promozione (7th) and Campionato di Eccellenza (6th).

In the 2010/2011 season, the US Marosticense played in the Campionato di Eccellenza and reached 14th place. In the following relegation games they were defeated by Romano D'Ezzelino 0: 1 in the home game and reached a 1: 1 away, making the relegation to the Campionato di Promozione fact. In the 2011/2012 season, promotion to the Campionato di Eccellenza was ensured on the 25th of a total of 30 matchdays with an away draw against Vedelago-ElleEsse.

In the following season the US Marosticense established itself successfully in the Campionato di Eccellenza and achieved a surprisingly good 6th place with 44 points from 30 games. In 2013/14, however, the good performance could not be confirmed, only in the play-out Marosticense secured relegation after a win against MM Sarego.

Stadion

Stadio Comunale Virgilio Maroso

The US Marosticense plays its home games at the Stadio comunale Virgilio Maroso. The stadium has 300 seats and around 3,000 standing places on the green mounds of earth. The stadium is named after the seven-time Italian national player Virgilio Maroso , who was born in Marostica in 1925 and won the Italian championship four times with FC Turin . He was killed in the Superga plane crash on May 4, 1949 .
