history

The company has its origins in the silent company of the Okinoyama coal mine ( 沖 ノ 山 炭 鉱 , ~ tankō ) founded in 1897 , the silent company of the Ube Shinkawa ironworks ( 宇 部 新 川 鉄 工 所 , ~ tekkōjo ) from 1914, the Ube Cement Seizō KK ( 宇 部 セ メ ン ト 製造 株式会社 , "cement production Ube") from 1923 and the Ube Chissō Kōgyō KK ( 宇 部 窒 素 工業 株式会社 , “nitrogen production Ube”) from 1933, which merged in 1942 to form Ube Kōsan .

In 2002 Ube built a factory for aluminum wheels in Sarnia (Canada), which was closed again in 2009 after losses.

In 2003 the crop protection business was sold to SDS Biotech , a subsidiary of Shōwa Denkō .
