Ube ( Japanese 宇 部 市 , -shi ) is a coastal city in Yamaguchi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

geography

Ube is located east of Shimonoseki and west of Yamaguchi on the Seto Inland Sea .

history

The city was founded on November 1, 1921.

Attractions

The Tokiwa amusement park on Lake Tokiwa is well worth a visit.

economy

The production of magnesium , synthetic fibers, cotton textiles, fertilizers and cement is economically important . The city used to be a center of coal mining , to which the chemical company Ube Kōsan also goes back.
