Udgir is a city in the state of Maharashtra in western India . It is part of the Latur district . Udgir is divided into 33 wards (constituencies) and is administered as the Municipal Council. The city is located near the border with Karnataka . It is 545 kilometers to Mumbai from Udgir .
history
In 1759 a battle between the Maratha and the Nazim of Hyderabad took place near Ugdir . The Udgir fort still testifies to this time.
Demographics
The population of the city is 103,550 according to the 2011 census. Ugdir has a gender ratio of 917 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 84.3% in 2011. Almost 62.2% of the population are Hindus , approx. 33.4% are Muslims , approx. 3.5% are Buddhists , approx. 0.4% are Jainas , approx 0.2% are Christians and about 0.3% belong to other or no religions. 13.2% of the population are children under six years of age.
Infrastructure
The city is connected to the rest of the country by a train station. Udgir is part of the South Central Railways Zone of Indian Railways .
