Udi Adam

Ehud "Udi" Adam ( Hebrew אודי אדם, also Udi ; * February 22, 1958 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli Aluf (German major general ) of the Israel Defense Forces (Tzahal) and was the commanding general of the North Command from October 6, 2005 to September 2006 . In this capacity he led the Israeli military actions against Hezbollah during the 2006 Lebanon War .

Military career

Adam went to Tzahal in 1976 and was deployed in the Panzer Corps. Before he took over North Command in 2005, he was Director of the Technology and Logistics Directorate. Adam received a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Bar Ilan University and later studied at the École Militaire in Paris , where he was awarded an MA in strategic studies.

On August 8, 2006, Moshe Kaplinski was assigned to the responsible command during the Lebanon War or Udi Adam was put in front of him because the Chief of Staff Dan Chalutz was not satisfied with Adam and his leadership. Chalutz could not simply dismiss Adam in times of war, so he recalled him from the front and Kaplinski took over the forward command. This is considered a silent way of relieving Adam of his command.

On September 13, 2006, Adam announced his resignation. In his place Gadi Eizenkot took over the northern command. Adam was criticized by military analysts and the media for his behavior during the war; he was accused of being too careful. His resignation was expected after Kaplinski was installed. According to BBC correspondent Jill McGivering, Adam's resignation also increases pressure on other political and military leaders in Israel to accept responsibility for the course of the war, which some have criticized as the main goal of the liberation of the two on July 12, 2006 Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah had not been reached.

Political career

The then minister, Moshe Jaalon, announced in April 2016 that Adam would be appointed Director General in the Israeli Ministry of Defense. He took office in May.
