Udo-Willi Kögler

Udo-Willi Kögler (born December 4, 1942 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a German manager. From April 2008 to March 2017 he was the spokesman for the board of the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology (NFF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig , before that he was head of the research and development department at Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft . He is also actively involved in the Braunschweig - Wolfsburg region . Kögler is married and has a daughter.

Life

Kögler studied physics at the Technical University of Braunschweig and joined the research and development department at Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft in 1971 . He was responsible for setting up the department for measuring devices in research and in 1978 took over the function of department head for measuring technology. In 1985, the coordination of personnel, infrastructure and investments in research and development was added. From 1988 to 2006, Kögler was head of the central research and development department at Volkswagen AG with around 2,500 employees.

In 2007, Kögler became the board representative for the newly founded Volkswagen initiative “Volkswagen Pro Ehrenamt”. With the establishment of the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology (NFF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Udo-Willi Kögler took on the role of spokesman for the founding board from April 2008 to March 2017 and played a key role in the establishment and development of the center. In this role, Kögler also made a significant contribution to the creation and development of the lightweight construction campus “Open Hybrid LabFactory” in Wolfsburg.

The Lower Saxony Research Center Vehicle Technology is a scientific center of the Technical University of Braunschweig and was founded in December 2007 with the support of the Lower Saxony state government and Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft to make the Braunschweig research region a top location in association with the NFF member universities, the Clausthal University of Technology and the Leibniz University of Hanover to be established in vehicle and traffic engineering. At the beginning of 2009, the Wolfsburg location in the MobileLifeCampus was opened. The new NFF building at the Braunschweig research airport was inaugurated in February 2015.

Kögler has been spokesman for the board of directors since the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology was founded at the Technical University of Braunschweig in 2008. In the founding phase of the NFF, he carried out interdisciplinary as well as cross-institutional and cross-university preparatory work.

Awards

On May 20, 2006, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig awarded Kögler the honorary degree and dignity of doctoral engineer (Dr.-Ing.Eh) . Kögler received the award "in recognition of his personal, outstanding research work and achievements in the development of new technologies for product creation and their further development into computer-aided product creation processes as well as the outstanding importance of this process in practical application."

In May 2015, the Technical University of Braunschweig conferred the title of Honorary Senator on the decision of the Senate Kögler . He received this award "in recognition of his special services to the development and establishment of the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology, the promotion of research and teaching at the Technical University of Braunschweig and his special commitment to Lower Saxony as a mobility location".

Kögler also has functions in various committees, organizations and associations:

  • Chairman of the Wolfsburg Community Foundation
  • Chairman of the advisory board of the medium-sized company MKN Maschinenfabrik Kurt Neubauer GmbH & Co. KG in Wolfenbüttel
  • Member of the advisory board of Academica Julia, an association for the promotion of science and research
  • Since 2008: Foundation of the Walter Kertz Study Prize (together with his wife Christine Kögler)

In 2007, Kögler was awarded the silver city badge by the city of Wolfsburg for his commitment. In 2018 he was made an honorary citizen of the city.

Political commitment

Kögler has been committed to the issues of the SPD in the Wolfsburg region since the 1960s . From 1971 to 1991 he was an active member of the local council of Vorsfelde (City of Wolfsburg). In addition, he was a member of the Wolfsburg City Council from 1976 to 1989. In 2008 he was awarded the Carl Grete Medal for his social commitment in Wolfsburg and the district of Vorsfelde.
