Udo IV. (Stade)
Udo IV von Stade , also Udo von Freckleben († March 15, 1130 ) was Count of Stade and Freckleben and Margrave of the Nordmark (1128–1130).
Life
Udo was a son of Count Rudolf I von Stade ( Udone ), Margrave of the Nordmark (1106 to 1114) and Richardis von Sponheim .
When Heinrich II. Von Stade died on December 4, 1128, without leaving an heir, his brother-in-law Albrecht the Bear may have hoped to become Margrave of the Nordmark. Udo was enfeoffed with the northern march by the king. The area had been under Slavic control since 983. The margrave was still a title with no real rule, even if German settlers had probably settled east of the Elbe at that time.
In the same year Udo married Mathilde, the daughter of Count Hermann I von Winzenburg . Since 1129 he had been in a bloody feud with Albrecht because of the office of Margrave of Nordmark.
On March 15, 1130, Udo IV was slain by Albrecht's servants near Aschersleben . He left no male heirs. The next margrave was Konrad von Plötzkau .
