Udo Maria Nix
Udo Herbert Nix , also Udo Maria Nix , OP (born October 3, 1927 in Aachen , † March 23, 2000 in Lendersdorf ) was a German Dominican priest , philologist and educator.
Life
From 1939 Nix attended high school in Monschau / Eifel; he had to interrupt school in 1944 because of military service as an air force helper. In May 1950 he entered the novitiate of the Dominican Order; The novitiate in Warburg was followed by studies in Walberberg from 1951 to 1958 and his doctorate (linguistics, philosophy, rhetoric, phonetics and pastoral theology) at the Bonn Faculty of Philosophy from 1958 to 1961 . He was ordained a priest on July 25, 1956. In 1960 he published a commemorative publication on Meister Eckhart and graduated as a speaker teacher.
He did his doctorate in 1961 with Leo Weisgerber with a dissertation on Eckhart and received the grade magna cum laude . The work was printed in 1963 with the title The mystical vocabulary of Meister Eckhart in the light of the energetic consideration of language . Nix taught at the Catholic University of Paderborn , among others .
Allegations of plagiarism
After its publication, Nix's dissertation was criticized as plagiarism in reviews by Kurt Ruh and Josef Quint . The doctorate was not withdrawn, whereupon 19 Bonn professors denounced the “deliberate deception” in the work; however, Nix kept his doctorate until the end of his life. He published several texts about the Dominican order and about the best way to study success.
