The Ufsebotnen (Norwegian for cliff basin ) is a large mountain basin in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . In the Otto von Gruber Mountains of the Wohlthat massif , it is 1.5 km north of the Layer Mountains .
The cauldron was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, mapped it on the basis of aerial photographs and measurements of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
