Clock Tower (Bar-le-Duc)
The clock tower in Bar-le-Duc , a French town in the Meuse department in Lorraine , was originally built in the 12th century as part of the town's fortifications . The clock tower on the Place de la Tour was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1941 as Monument historique .
During the renovation in 1381, the tower was provided with a public clock at the instigation of Duke Robert I. The walls of the tower are 1.70 meters thick and with a height of 50 meters it towers over the valley.
The tower was always equipped with a bell that rang when a fire broke out or when there was danger from enemies.
