Dolmabahçe clock tower
The clock tower of Dolmabahçe ( Turkish Dolmabahçe Saat Kulesi ) is a clock tower in Istanbul 's Beşiktaş district , which Sultan Abdülhamid II had built between 1890 and 1894. The tower is located on the European bank of the Bosphorus , between the Dolmabahçe Mosque ( Bezm-i Âlem Valide Sultan Camii ) and the Dolmabahçe Palace .
The design of the tower, which is assigned to the Empire style and neo-baroque , comes from Sarkis Bey, a member of the Armenian master builder and architect family Balyan . The four-storey, 27-meter-high structure stands in the middle of a 12 × 12-meter marble platform with a base area of 8.5 × 8.5 meters , with small fountains in every corner. The spiral staircase in the building has 94 steps. The movement was made by the Parisian watchmaker Paul Garnier (1834–1916).
