Warta Estuary National Park |
The Warta Estuary National Park (Polish: Park Narodowy Ujście Warty ), about 80 km east of Berlin at the confluence of the Warta and the Oder , was founded in 2001 and covers an area of 8,038 hectares .
The park is dominated by meadows and pastures , which are cut through by numerous old rivers and canals. The Warta divides the national park in half. The southern one is a floodplain, the water level of which fluctuates by up to four meters over the course of the year. The part to the north of the Warta is protected from flooding by a dike.
In May you can here observe water and wading birds in large numbers, which are in most of Germany's rare to rare: various ducks , mute swans , river , Weißbart- and Weißflügelseeschwalben , silk and Night Heron , Black-necked Grebe , teals , wood sandpiper , snipe . There are 4 grebes , 7 to 8 ducks , 5 railings , 3–4 gulls and terns - and 8–9 species of waders . The sea eagles, which are present in good numbers, scare everything away and thus create good observation conditions.
In November, the park offers resting places for masses of bean and white-fronted geese .
260 bird species have been identified in the park and 170 breed here.
The bat tours at the nearby fortress Küstrin ( Kostrzyn nad Odrą ) are also interesting .
