Ulf Pindur
Ulf Pindur (born January 18, 1943 in Bad Darkau ) is a German pharmacist and food chemist . His field of work was the synthesis and analysis of new drugs with gene-selective binding against cancer .
Life and research
Pindur studied pharmacy and food chemistry at the University of Marburg . There he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. doctorate and in 1980 in chemistry Pharmaceutical / Medicinal Chemistry on heterocycles of pyrazole, pyrrole and indole series habilitation . In 1980 he became professor for pharmaceutical chemistry / medicinal chemistry at the University of Würzburg . Since 1985 he has been Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Mainz . For many years he was head of the pharmacy institute and chairman of the central committee of the mathematical and natural science departments at the University of Mainz. From 1995 to 2002 he was appointed expert reviewer for the German Research Foundation in Bonn.
Pindur's research areas were drug reactivity, heterocycle chemistry and mainly the development of new peptidomimetics (peptide mimics) as sequence-selective DNA ligands. The presentation of new cancer therapeutics with promising properties was therefore the focus of the research. In addition to organic synthesis and in silico processes, biological and biophysical methods were used. The research results were documented in over 260 publications.
For a total of 30 years he was chairman of the university pharmacy state examination at the universities of Würzburg and Mainz.
Cultural engagement
In addition, Pindur made an appearance with self-produced videos on local cultural monuments of history, including monasteries and cultural landscapes, which were made available free of charge. In addition, science films on medical chemistry are produced.
