Ulla von Gemmingen

Ulrike Gertrud Brigitte Annelies "Ulla" von Gemmingen (born January 6, 1949 in Bad Wimpfen ) is a museum educator and visual artist.

Life

She comes from the 2nd sub-branch (Stuttgart) of the Fürfeld line of the barons of Gemmingen-Guttenberg and is a daughter of Major a. D. Sigmund von Gemmingen (* 1913) and Gerda Maria Soika (* 1921).

The parents were bombed out in Stuttgart during the Second World War and lived in the first post-war years until the restoration of their Stuttgart house in Schloss Fürfeld , where Ulla spent her early childhood. The family then moved back to Stuttgart, where they attended school and graduated from the Königin-Charlotte-Gymnasium . She then studied painting and art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Thomas Zacharias and Karlfried Dahmen . Afterwards she was a trainee teacher at various schools before switching to museum education in 1979, where she carried out experimental projects with migrants at Munich museums. She advanced to head of department for experimental museum education and later until 2006 to head of department and program area for culture, art and creativity at the Munich Adult Education Center . In 1990 she published a book about her museum educational work with migrants. She also received teaching assignments at the universities in Bremen and Munich and was awarded a prize for innovation in adult education in 2003.

In addition to her professional activity, she was always active as a freelance artist, initially also in a team with her sister Susanne von Gemmingen and her brother-in-law Mirsad Taslaman, both of whom are academic painters in Munich. Her work includes abstract painting and printmaking. In addition to her studio in Munich, she also set up a studio for large-format work in Fürfeld Castle. A first solo exhibition of her works was on view in 1984/85 in the Steiner Gallery in Babstadt Castle . Since the late 1990s, she has mainly exhibited in Munich galleries. Since 2009 she has mainly been working on graphic sheets, oil paintings, stone lithographs, collagrafs and multi-colored etchings.
