Thomas Zacharias (artist)

Thomas Zacharias (born June 21, 1930 in Planegg ) is a German artist , art historian , photographer and professor emeritus. He was a member of the executive committee of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and lives in Leutstetten .

Life

Thomas Zacharias is the son of the graphic artist and teacher Alfred Zacharias and the Düsseldorf-based art teacher and watercolorist Irmgard Zacharias. His brother was the art and culture educator Wolfgang Zacharias , his sister Veronika Zacharias is a painter. He was married to Wanda Zacharias . Their daughter Claudia emerged from the marriage. After the war he grew up in Gauting .

Thomas Zacharias worked as an art education teacher at the Klenze Gymnasium in Munich from 1956 to 1966 , then until his retirement in 1995 as professor of art education and head of a class at the Academy of Fine Arts, later also as president. After that he also worked a lot abroad, including in London as a correspondent for the Laubach features section .

The focus of his artistic work was and is graphics , illustrations, drawings and collages , many of them for book illustrations . He has written numerous works on the subject of art history and art education , as well as books for children and young people. He also works as a photographer. Zacharias is a member of the general council of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria .

His graphics and sketches were shown in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux , in the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne, in the Staatsgemäldesammlungen Augsburg and in the Hamburg Deichtorhallen .
