Ulrich Becker

Ulrich Becker (born November 14, 1958 in Frankenberg / Sa. ) Is a publisher of literature on and about Esperanto and of interlinguistic literature in general.

He holds a Masters in Science of Publishing from Pace University in New York (2001). In 1983 he completed studies in French and Russian literature and linguistics at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a teaching license.

Ulrich Becker is a member of the Society for Interlinguistics (GIL), the International Literature Academy of Esperanto ( Akademio Literatura de Esperanto , the World Esperanto Federation Universala Esperanto-Asocio , UEA) and other national and international organizations. He was a board member of the FAME Foundation for the Promotion of International Communication.

He received the Grabowski Prize ( Premio Grabowski ) in 2005 for his contribution to the publication of Esperanto literature. He won several prizes at the international literary competitions of UEA, Belartaj Konkursoj , etc. a. the Nova Talento Prize in 1990, first prizes in 1991, 1995 and 2004 and second prizes in 1991 and 2004. He is a Humboldt Prize winner at the Humboldt University of Berlin (1983). In 2000 he received an Arthur Anderson Scholarship from Pace University in New York.

Publishing and Esperanto

Ulrich Becker learned Esperanto autodidactically in 1976. From 1988 to 1990 he was employed by the Esperanto Association in the Kulturbund of the GDR . After the reunification of Germany he was elected member of the board of the German Esperanto Association (Germana Esperanto-Asocio) (until 1993) and was editor of the magazine Esperanto Aktuell . In 1991 he was a co-founder of the Society for Interlinguistics (GIL) in Berlin and was a board member until 1999. He was editor of the GIL's annual conference materials in the 1990s ( Interlinguistic Information - Supplements ). Since 2002 he has also worked for the international media agency InterNation, Inc. in New York and, since 2004, for the Esperanto department of the New York publishing house Mondial.

Esperanto literature

Ulrich Becker is the author of a collection of stories in Esperanto (La Aĵoj kaj la sezonoj, 1996) and a volume of poetry in Esperanto (Ĉiuj dioj estas for. Novjorkaj poemoj, 2004), a collection of interviews with Esperanto speakers (with Zdravka Metz: Vivprotokoloj, 1995 and 2009) as well as stories in various Esperanto magazines. Some of his Esperanto stories have been translated into ethnic languages.

German literature

He is the author of a novel in German (New York or Lunatic or Die other Seite des Mondes, 2000) and a story in the anthology once war's beautiful ( Literature Prize of the Gay Book Shops , 1997).
