Ulrich Dietzi (born August 9, 1596 in Urnäsch ; † June 8, 1662 in Urnäsch; entitled to reside in Urnäsch) was a Swiss politician, councilor , governor and delegate from Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Ulrich Dietzi was a son of Hans Dietzi and the Barbel Thörig. In 1614 he married his first wife, Cathrina Alder, daughter of Captain Ulrich Alder. He married his second wife, Rosina Brüllisauer, daughter of the wealthy Lorenz Brülisauer, in 1619. In 1637 he married his third wife, Anna Baumann, widow of Jochem Nänni. One year before his death, finally, in 1661, he married his fourth wife, Barbara Klarer, widow of Ulrich Oberteufer.

The export business with gunpowder brought Ulrich Dietzi as the owner of the first powder mill in Appenzell Ausserrhoden at the time of the Thirty Years' War high profits. The fact that he violated the government's export ban was apparently viewed as a minor offense and did not prevent him from advancing politically. Ulrich Dietzi was from 1622 Ausserrhoden councilor, from 1635 parish captain of Urnäsch, 1639-1648 Ausserrhoden state governor and twelve times Tagsatzung envoy . Even after 1648 Ulrich Dietzi was a delegate of the state of Appenzell Ausserrhoden several times at federal conferences. He was also the builder for the reconstruction of the Urnäsch church after the village fire in 1641.
