Ulrich Gasser

Ulrich Gasser (born April 15, 1950 in Frauenfeld ) is a contemporary Swiss composer and cultural functionary.

Life

After graduating from high school , Gasser studied instrumental at the Winterthur Conservatory ( flute ), then deepened his instrumental training as a flutist with André Jaunet at the Zurich Conservatory and at the same time studied composition with Klaus Huber at the Freiburg University of Music (Breisgau) .

Between 1976 and 2004 he taught at the Pedagogical Matura School in Kreuzlingen . He was an employee of the Pro Musica Zurich and the music commission of the Künstlerhaus Boswil . Between 2004 and 2008 he was in the secretariat of the Swiss Tonkünstlerverein STV / ASM in Lausanne as Secrétaire artistique, responsible for musical and artistic questions. He has worked as a freelance composer since 2009, lives on Lake Geneva and in France .

Musical creation

Gasser's work includes compositions for solo instruments, chamber music, ensembles, chamber orchestras, orchestras, voices, vocal ensembles, choirs, but above all oratorios, liturgical music, as well as music theater and music for silent films. Since 1981 he has been composing music with sound stones at regular intervals together with the stone sculptor Arthur Schneiter.

Gasser was inspired by Andrea Nold's pictures for no less than three compositions. One of them was performed on the occasion of the Swiss Tonkünstlerfest in 1981 in Lugano .

His works were performed at the Donaueschinger Musiktage , festivals in Hamburg, Kassel, Munich, Saarbrücken, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Venice and at several Swiss Tonkunstler festivals, including live radio broadcasts.
